FAQs

Daygleamer Mineral Sunscreen Serum SPF 34 FAQs

What is mineral sunscreen?

Broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen, also known as physical sunscreen, is a type of sun protection product that uses natural minerals to block or reflect harmful UV rays from the sun. Our Daygleamer Mineral Sunscreen Serum is formulated with non-nano zinc, which sits on top of the skin’s surface to physically block out UVA and UVB rays and protect your skin from sun damage.

What is the difference between mineral sunscreen and chemical sunscreen?

There are two types of sunscreens—mineral sunscreen and chemical sunscreen—and the main differences lie in their active ingredients and how they work to protect the skin from the sun's harmful UV rays.

Mineral sunscreen is formulated with minerals (like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide), which sit on top of your skin and act as a physical blocker to reflect and scatter UVA and UVB rays from the sun.

Chemical sunscreen is formulated with synthetic ingredients (e.g., avobenzone, octinoxate, oxybenzone, homosalate and octocrylene). When applied to your skin, these ingredients absorb the sun’s rays like a sponge to protect your skin.

Which one is better? Since both types of sunscreen are effective in protecting your skin, it really comes down to your preference and skin type. Many people with acne-prone skin or sensitive skin prefer mineral sunscreens because they are non-comedogenic and won’t cause irritation. Just remember: the best sunscreen is one that you actually wear!

What is the difference between face sunscreen and body sunscreen?

Face sunscreen and regular sunscreen both protect against the sun's harmful UV rays, but they are formulated differently to suit their intended use on the skin. Face sunscreen formulas are typically lighter with a non-greasy feel and work well under makeup as a base. They are often formulated to be non-comedogenic (won’t clog your pores) and safe for acne-prone and sensitive skin. Face sunscreens are also sometimes enriched with antioxidants to help combat free radials and signs premature aging, and may also include ingredients like brightening niacinamide and vitamin C for added skincare benefits.

Regular sunscreen is more focused on providing waterproof, broad-spectrum protection all over the rest of your body. Because of this, the formulas tend to feel heavier and more lotion-like (which can sometimes leave a white cast). They may contain more emollient or occlusive agents that provide longer-lasting sun protection—but this can also make them feel too heavy or greasy on your face.

Is Daygleamer Mineral Sunscreen safe for sensitive skin?

Yes, our Well People clean mineral sunscreen is non-comedogenic (meaning, it won’t clog your pores) and a great sunscreen choice for those with sensitive skin. For added skincare benefits, the plant-powered formula is also enriched with an antioxidant-rich oil complex and aloe leaf juice to hydrate and nourish skin.

How often should I apply sunscreen to my face?

Skincare 101: You should be wearing sunscreen on your face daily and all year round (look for products that provide SPF 30 or higher). Doing so will help protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays, which can cause skin cancer, premature aging and other skin damage.

Proper reapplication is just as important to ensure you’re properly protected. Make sure to reapply your face sunscreen at least every two hours if you’re spending time outside, especially after swimming or sweating.
