Wellness Coach Licensing

The Wellness Inventory can support you in creating a new coaching business or to expand your existing practice.

The Wellness Inventory - An Invaluable Tool for Coaches

The Wellness Inventory is a whole person assessment program based upon the pioneering work of John W. Travis, MD, MPH, a founder of the modern wellness movement and creator of the first wellness assessment. Partnering with Dr. Travis, WellPeople has created a dynamic, online version of the Wellness Inventory, now an effective program to support your clients in creating more balance in their lives.
The program enables your clients to gain personal insight into their state of physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness. The program offers guidance and tools to transform this new awareness into sustainable lifestyle change, and a renewed sense of health and wellbeing. "This tool should be part of every coach's tool box."

Patrick Williams, Ph.D.

We work very closely with the coaching community, and have developed many of the features of the program with coaches in mind. Our Wellness Inventory Certification Training has been approved by the International Coach Federation for 42 CCEs (continuing coaching education credits), and 42 hours towards the Board Certified Coach (BCC) credential from the Center for Credentialing and Education.

You can use the Wellness Inventory to bring a whole person perspective to your wellness coaching business, as a marketing tool to obtain new clients, as a framework within which to work with clients over time, as well as to generate new profit centers.

Background of the Program - Teaching People to Be Well

The Wellness Inventory is based on the pioneering work of John W. Travis, MD, MPH, recognized as a founder of the wellness movement. Dr. Travis was a protégé of Dr. Louis Robbins, creator of the Health Risk Appraisal, while a resident at John's Hopkins and working with the US Public Health Service. In the early 1970s influenced by the pioneering work of Abraham Maslow and his concept of self-actualization, and other early leaders in the human potential movement, he decided to dedicate his life to "teaching people to be well" rather than treating patients.

He opened the first wellness center in the US in 1975) and created the first wellness assessment (Wellness Inventory) as the intake for the center. The work at his wellness center was based on a forerunner of the coaching model, in which the client was the expert in his/her own life and had a co-creative relationship with the center's wellness facilitators. Dr. Travis authored the classic Wellness Workbook (Celestial Arts, 1981, 2004, 3rd Ed) which has been used by wellness and health promotion educators in universities for 25 years.
